I haven't decided whether or not to do this one yet. I'm enjoying the break from the game, and transatlantics get tiresome. But this course could be a bit more interesting because of the option to consider extreme-North routings.

Which gets to my question... any hidden gates to require us to pass South of Ireland? (Or even England, for that matter?)

Hi Mom,

Here are the only gates to care of (there is another one at the start which forces to leave Pointe-à-Pitre straight to the East, but that won't be that important anyway) :

Yep, a gate at Lizard Point.

The routing was going all the way to Newfoundland at some point, but not now.

The port/north side of the Pointe-à-Pitre gate is at 16°14'30"N 61°10'24"W. According to Google Maps it is located at sea, about 100m off the coast near Pointe La Chaise.
I was wondering where VR thinks it is and set a waypoint there but it's impossible to tell. Current routing says to go as close as possible to Pointe La Chaise, so maybe someone will find out :^)

hi all,
Before the last VR update, for the record, the DTF was calculated without taking into account the distance in the passage of Horn correctly, now, if you are more North than Longitude of Horn your DTF is increase because your road will lengthen to come down again

mak08, I just put a VR waypoint at your coordinates and it does seem to just be on land - closer than I would dare go at least

I set a waypoint at the coordinates and I'll probably run aground at 21:20 CET. Or I'll keep sailing but also pass the gate.

In the unlikely event that I keep sailing but lose my rank we'll know that VR uses a different map server-side. Look out for Hardtack.

According to this map, if you place a waypoint at these coordinates, you will be aground. The maps of google map and those of VR do not coincide...and not the same with GSHHG.

Interesting - what maps did you use in this image?

gshhg maps and old VRTool maps. But what you see in red, i absolutely don't know if it's still correct. I've never used them.

I'll find out ;-) (Disclosing my meticulously planned start strategy:) https://ibb.co/YRGJkGb

So there was no water between Pointe La Chaise and the port mark of the first gate https://ibb.co/ZYv6BY2.
