I just wanted to get some feedback on the way you set your route. What do you think is the most reliable setup in terms of "days ahead". Weather forecast is a science of its own, so following in advance a pre-determined 3 day route seems to me a bit risky. Any thoughts on this? What it the typical setup you use + you find most reliable/optimal?

I usually use the full 16 days by default. Then if the forecast is unstable, or weather models disagree, I will look at some shorter periods and see if that changes the route in the very short term. If so, I try to figure out what in the future the router is aiming at. If it's something far in the distance that I don't think will be there when we get there then I will go with the short term route and favour VMG.

On the other hand, if you are in a long run in open ocean with stable weather, like the southern ocean in JV or VG, then I definitely favour the longterm route.
