is it really faster to change TWA 135 to 143 every 10 mins?
not even sure why 143, looking at polars in VR - are your polars equal to game?
have a spped night :)

I am interested in this too. There are "hitches" in a segment (between isochromes) for 10 but mostly 20 minutes. Here headings change several degree then return to what was close to normal for the segment. Investigation of the wind direction and speed does not justify the black dot.

I am uncomfortable ignoring these when decimals are important but would like to.

143 was probably the optimum downwind speed.

The router tries sailing in various directions, using 5-degree increments, plus the optimum angles, so if the best direction is something like 138 it may alternate between 135 and 143.

What is the best action from the player depends on the conditions. It might be possible to sail at 143 all the time, but in varying wind it could get you in to weaker winds and lower boat speed.

In many cases there are many equal routes that get from one point to the next and the router will chose one of then somehow randomly.

I use the track tool myself. Watch the position of the circles compared to the isochrones and find a direction/TWA which brings you further.

I fully agree with you and I do exactly the same as you explain trying to find trends.
What does worry me is that when we are going upwind or downwind, maybe because of the angle rounding, most of the time, lets say, >50% of the time it tells me to go 2º beyond the good angle. That makes me to check maximum angle in the polar every time.
Due to my job I know, rounding is a pain in the ass. Specially when we do not round only at the very end.
